This is a part-time position as a Director of Youth Ministry for the parish. The Director of Youth Ministry is responsible for the development and coordination of a comprehensive Parish Youth Ministry Program in each parish that will meet the needs of adolescents in grades 6 through 12. The ministry will provide formal catechesis and enrichment opportunities, foster personal and spiritual growth, empower youth to live as intentional disciples of Christ Jesus, immerse youth in the life of the parish community, and support youth in meeting the challenges of today's culture.

A Qualified Candidate must:

  • Be a Catholic, in good standing, in full communion with the Catholic Church, and an active member of a Roman Catholic Parish.

  • Have a BA/BS in theology, religious studies or another acceptable degree (e.g., psychology, counseling, sociology)

  • Have experience working with teens and/or early adolescents preferably in the area of program development or youth ministry.

  • Exhibit knowledge and understanding of Catholic doctrine and liturgical practice.

  • Have working knowledge of parish life and structure.

  • Demonstrate the ability and willingness to work collaboratively with clergy, staff, pastoral leadership, and volunteers at the parish level, as well as with Archdiocesan Offices, other directors of youth ministry, and area schools (diocesan, public, & private).

  • Be committed to ongoing professional development.

  • Exhibit strong organizational and communication skills and be proficient with technology and social media platforms.

  • Be willing and able to travel locally, have a flexible schedule, and be available some nights and weekends.


The Director of Youth Ministry Position Includes the Following Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive youth ministry program for junior high (grades 6-8) and senior high (grade 9-12) youth that comprises opportunities for catechesis, fellowship, spiritual development, prayer and worship, active discipleship, acts of mercy, evangelization, and the cultivation of leadership in line with Renewing the Vision: A Framework for Catholic Youth Ministry, and other church-related documents.

  • Collaborate with Director of Religious Education on any additional junior and senior high related projects (e.g., retreats, Confirmation preparation, etc.)

  • Recruit, train, manage and delegate adult volunteers for parish youth ministry.

  • Work with the parish business manager in preparing a budget for youth ministry.

  • Coordinate and oversee fundraisers for youth-related programs.

  • Maintain communication with each pastor and their respective staffs.

  • Serve as parish resource on issues relating to youth ministry and adolescent formation.

  • Ensure the full compliance of adult volunteers in parish youth ministry with the Archdiocesan Safe Environment Policies.

  • Maintain youth meeting areas and inventory of youth ministry resources and supplies.

  • Maintain accurate records (e.g., attendance, volunteer training, medical release and liability forms for youth, etc.) as needed.

  • Maximize the use of modern technology to reach and relate to youth in conformity with Archdiocesan policies.

  • Serve as the pastor's liaison to Scouting groups and CYO Athletic Board

  • Serve as ex-officio member of Parish Pastoral Council

  • Attend parish staff meetings.
