           Principal's Memo  - May 14, 2008

We will honor Mary with Mass and traditional crowning on Thursday, May 22, at 11:30.  PreK through Eighth Grade students will participate.  First Communion students may wear their outfits and Eighth Grade may wear their Graduation gowns.  Everyone else (Grades 1-7) should be in uniform (either summer or winter).

Students in Grades 1-8 may wear the optional summer uniform (check handbook for details) beginning April 15.  Sneakers may be worn with the summer uniform ONLY.  If students choose to wear long pants or skirt or jumper, then the school shoes are worn.  Belts are to be worn with both pants and shorts.  White socks should cover the ankle and are worn only with the sneakers and shorts.  At this time of year we seem to get lots of "mix and match" uniforms.  Warm weather uniforms are an option.  Otherwise, students can wear the regular "formal"/winter uniform.  We ask you to make sure your student is in compliance with the appropriate school uniform dress code.

As the warm weather approaches, so do many class trips.  Please refer to the calendar for your children's excursions.

The Third and Fourth Grades will be traveling to Philadelphia on Friday, May 16, for a walking tour that includes a visit to the National Constitution Center.  What a great way to cap a year of studying Pennsylvania and the national government!

The Seventh Grade will be buddying with the seventh Grade of St. Bede School, Holland, for a trip to the Mutter Museum in Philadelphia on Monday, May 19.  The Mutter is a very unique museum.  Its exhibits correlate well with the seventh grade science curriculum which is biology.

Please Mark Your Calendars:  Thursday, May 29, at 7:00 we will present our Spring Music Program
SING FOR THE RED, WHITE and BLUE.  This will be held in the cafeteria and will involve students in grades PreK through Grade 8.  Our instrumental students as well as our choir will be featured.  Attire is black and white:  black bottoms and white tops.  Shoes, please, no sneakers.

Next Fall we would like to offer again St. Martin of Tours College for Kids in collaboration with Bucks County Community College.  A survey went home.  We ask that you complete the survey and return it to school on or before June 2.  The College for Kids is open to all parish students in Kindergarten through Grade 8.

FYI - All Special Classes (Spanish, Art, Music, Library, Technology and Phys. Ed.) end on or before May 30.  Final Assessments are the following week.  Each teacher will send her/his schedule of assessments home so students may prepare.

Performance Assessments (non-objective testing) in the various subject areas will take place during the week of May 27.  Performance Assessments test students' ability to think, problem solve, create and write.

Final Exams for Grade 8 begin Tuesday, June 3,
Final Exams for Grades 1-7 begin Wednesday, June 4.
Grade-specific schedules will be sent home with your child as well as posted on the classroom website.

In the last Communication Envelope of the year you will receive the 2008-2009 school calendar; your child's Summer Reading List; next year's stationery list.  Should you misplace them, they will also be posted on the classroom websites during the summer months.
